Limited Health Guarantee

To be covered by this Limited Guarantee, the dog must carry the SunDog kennel prefix in its registered name. The dog must be owned by, and at all times in the possession of, the person who originally bought the dog from SunDog.  If the dog was sold as a breeding animal, it must not have sired or whelped a litter prior to 26 months of age. Failure to adhere to these conditions renders this Limited Guarantee null and void and of no effect.

Your puppy has received its initial vaccinations, an AVID microchip, and any deworming that was indicated by serial fecal examinations. The puppy should be examined by your veterinarian within 72 hours (not including weekends or holidays) after it has arrived at its new home to certify its health.

The sire and dam of your puppy have been certified by the Orthopedic Foundation For Animals (OFA), the national registry for hip dysplasia control. In addition, the sire and dam have been examined by a certified veterinary ophthalmologist. This is a Limited Guartanee and it applies only to inherited hip dysplasia and inherited ocular diseases.  Any and all other canine health problems or defects are not covered by this Limited Guarantee.

Specifically, the terms and conditions of this Guarantee are the following:

1.   Any SunDog Labrador that is found to have inherited hip dysplasia or ocular disease will be replaced with a dog of equal value for one-half the original purchase price. If the dog is diagnosed to have hip dysplasia or ocular disease so severe that it must be humanely destroyed, the dog will be replaced at no charge. Or, if a show quality dog is found to have inherited hip dysplasia or ocular disease after it has finished its Championship, it will be replaced at no charge. Buyer is responsible for any resulting shipping costs.

2.    This Limited Guarantee does not entitle any Buyer a refund of any portion of a purchase price, unless and only if SunDog agrees to do so. Also, Buyer specifically agrees that SunDog is not responsible for any of Buyer’s veterinary fees or expenses incurred at any time for any reason.

3.    Should your dog be found to have inherited hip dysplasia or an inherited ocular disease, to qualify for a replacement, proof of the inherited hip dysplasia or ocular disease must be provided to SunDog and verified by a licensed practicing veterinarian of SunDog’s choice. To qualify for a replacement, the dog must be neutered or spayed (if not already done so) in a manner preferred by your veterinarian and a letter from him/her stating that he/she has done so must be sent to SunDog. If the dog is no longer functional as a pet due to the inherited hip dysplasia or ocular disease, and the dog is euthanized by your veterinarian, he/she must forward a letter to SunDog stating that he/she has euthanized the dog.

4. If you qualify for a replacement under this Guarantee, the replacement shall be of the same quality, color, and sex as the puppy/dog originally purchased, unless SunDog and Buyer mutually agree otherwise. Upon verification that you qualify for a replacement, your reservation for a new puppy/dog will be effective the date that SunDog was notified of the presence of inherited disease, with the only exception being dogs that were sold intact.  In the case of an intact animal, your reservation for a new puppy/dog will be effective the date that the affected dog was spayed or neutered. The replacement reservation will be placed in order of chronological priority in line with other deposits SunDog has received for puppies/dogs from other buyers.

5.    If you request a replacement under this Limited Guarantee, and the examination of the alleged inherited hip dysplasia or ocular disease by SunDog’s selected veterinarian determines that the problem is not genetic but instead was caused by or linked to trauma, stress, neglect, abuse or any other non-inherited factor, this Limited Guarantee is void and of no effect.

6.   This Limited Guarantee expires when your dog reaches 18 months of age.
